About Reff Water Fly Fishing

As a Central NY native I cut my teeth bass fishing with a spinning rod, like most young anglers. Once I was introduced to a fly rod at the age of 12, that’s where my passion really came to life. I spent my teenage years chasing trout with a fly rod on local rivers and streams. Then later on in college at Oswego State, I spent my “off days” chasing salmon and steelhead on the salmon river beginning in 2009. Initially I began a career in education as a high school and middle school science teacher. However, the outdoors just didn’t stop calling. I decided to take the plunge into making fishing my career. I’ve had the opportunity to fly fish for several species in both salt and freshwater over the last 20+ years that I’ve been fly fishing. Making my way through the western states chasing trout. Standing on the bows of pangas and skiffs on the flats of the Florida Keys and Belize, fishing for redfish, bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and many other species; landing myself 2 grand slams (bonefish, permit, and tarpon in a single day). Fishing for stripers in Cape Cod. Eventually heading back to Montana for Sweet Water Travel guide school to learn how to row drift boats and drive jet boats on the Yellowstone River, learning from guides that spent time in Alaska, Patagonia, Mongolia, and the Kamchatka peninsula. I began my guide life in Montana at the start. I wound up back in Central NY and have been guiding on the Salmon River and West Canada Creek ever since. Fly Fishing is my passion and I want to pass that passion to my clients. I’ve taken every experience I’ve had and carefully crafted my approach to trips with clients. I’m a very laid back person, who knows how and when to turn on that fire. I will work tirelessly to put you in the best position possible to land that fish you’ve been dreaming of. My goal is to always get a fish in the net, but overall I aim to teach something new, make memories, pass on my knowledge, and make sure you get a good laugh and a smile. I hope you choose to spend the day with me on the river!

See you soon,

Nik
